The Lithuanian National Crisis Management Center announced the temporary closure of Vilnius Airport caused by meteorological balloons. This was reported by Delfi news agency, stating that operations were halted at 21:32 on Saturday evening.
Flights resumed at 2 AM on Sunday, October 26.
This marks the second consecutive evening that airports in Lithuania were closed. On Friday night, flights had also been suspended at Vilnius and Kaunas airports due to meteorological balloons heading towards Druskininkai and Šalčininkai.
According to the NCUM, several dozen meteorological balloons were recorded on Friday. The head of NCUM, Vidmantas Vitkauskas, mentioned that airports incurred losses of at least 17,000 euros. On Tuesday evening, Vilnius Airport was closed again due to balloons from Belarus, and checkpoints remained non-operational until Wednesday morning.
