In June, during protests against the Trump administration's immigration policy, Los Angeles police discharged over 1000 projectiles at demonstrators.

According to reports from AP, the use of force report includes information on non-lethal projectiles such as "bean bags," rubber bullets, and tear gas.

It was noted that on June 6, police fired 34 projectiles at around 100 individuals, and on June 8, they discharged 1040 projectiles at approximately 6000 people, including 20 tear gas canisters.

There were reports of six injuries as a result of these projectiles.

The police department indicated that 584 officers were deployed to the scene that day.

“The data suggests that if you are controlling a protest in this manner, you are doing it incorrectly,” stated Josh Parker, associate director of policy at New York University School of Law.

In 2021, California limited the use of less lethal munitions until alternatives to force for crowd control are tested. The police are not permitted to indiscriminately target crowds or aim at vital body parts, nor can they fire solely for curfew violations or verbal threats.
