The Polish Ministry of Interior has confirmed that the border with Belarus will remain closed until the restrictions linked to military exercises taking place in Belarus are lifted.
This was reported by Polish Radio.
Spokesperson for the Ministry, Karolina Galecka, stated that this decision is made to ensure the safety of Polish citizens.
The primary reason behind the ministry's decision is the commitment to safeguard the lives and health of individuals.
According to the ministry's statement, border traffic will resume when the border is deemed safe.
Interior Minister Marcin Kerwinski on September 15 stated that the border closure is directly related to the threats arising from ongoing military exercises in Belarus.
“We are continuously monitoring the situation. I hope the border closure won’t last long, but the exercises are still ongoing. We will see what conclusions we can draw after the exercises conclude,” Kerwinski emphasized.
It is worth noting that on September 9, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced that the border with Belarus would be closed at midnight on September 11 due to upcoming Russian-Belarusian military exercises “West-2025” near the Polish border, scheduled from September 12 to 16.
