The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have announced the creation of a new humanitarian zone in the city of Khan Younis, located in the southern part of the Gaza Strip.
This news was reported by The Times of Israel.
According to the IDF, this zone will feature field hospitals, water supply systems, and desalination plants.
Additionally, the area will be supplied with food, medical supplies, and tents, coordinated through COGAT in collaboration with the UN and international organizations.
The Israeli military stated that these efforts will continue alongside the expansion of the offensive in northern Gaza.
At the same time, Israel urged civilians to evacuate to the southern part of Gaza City, where the IDF is attempting to capture the last strongholds of Hamas and fully take control of the city.
This announcement comes amid warnings from the World Food Programme about the Gaza Strip being on the brink of a humanitarian disaster.
The IDF has taken control of approximately 40% of the territory in Gaza City. On August 10, Israel initiated an offensive operation in Gaza City aimed at defeating Hamas militants, according to Netanyahu. This campaign has faced international criticism due to the humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip. A significant portion of Gaza City was destroyed in the initial weeks of the conflict in October-November 2023. Prior to the war, around one million people lived there, and it is believed that hundreds of thousands have returned to live among the ruins.
