The Lithuanian government has implemented a new alert system: in the event of detecting drones that may pose a threat, residents will be warned through sirens and mobile notifications.
This was reported by LRT.
The new procedure states that if a dangerous drone is identified, notifications will be sent to mobile devices and air raid sirens will be activated.
"If a drone enters our airspace and is suspected of carrying explosives, a red alert level may be declared," said Interior Minister Vladislav Kondratiev.
He noted that in such cases, residents will receive notifications on their phones, and air raid sirens will also be activated.
If the military determines the UAV does not pose an immediate threat, a yellow alert level will be declared.
Additionally, the updated procedure includes that during air attacks by the Russian Federation against Ukraine, Lithuanian services will enhance monitoring of the airspace in case of "lost" drones appearing over Lithuania.
The procedure was updated following two consecutive incidents where Russian UAVs "Gerbera" flew into Lithuania from Belarus. One of them was carrying 2 kg of explosives.
It is worth noting that at the end of August, an attack drone also entered Estonian territory, believed to be of Ukrainian origin. Amendments to legislation have also been initiated to simplify decision-making processes regarding the downing of dangerous drones. At the end of August, five EU countries requested the European Commission to increase funding for border security due to drone threats.
