The powerful earthquake that struck eastern Afghanistan on the night of September 1 has resulted in approximately 900 fatalities, with more than 3,000 individuals injured.
This information comes from AP news agency.
The majority of the casualties have been reported in Kunar province, where people primarily reside in river valleys surrounded by high mountains.
«The earthquake triggered landslides in certain areas, blocking roads, but they have since been cleared, and efforts are underway to restore access to the remaining routes,» said Yusuf Hammad, spokesperson for Afghanistan's National Disaster Management Authority.
Helicopters are being used to evacuate the injured to hospitals, and humanitarian organizations have stated that their teams are traveling on foot to reach the most isolated regions. The Taliban have appealed for international assistance.
Earlier reports indicated that the death toll from the powerful earthquake in eastern Afghanistan had already surpassed 800, with at least 2,800 more individuals injured.
