The Polish Internal Security Agency (ABW) has detained a 17-year-old Ukrainian citizen, believed to have been recruited by Russian intelligence for subversive activities.
This was announced by the Minister of Internal Affairs and Coordinator of Polish Special Services, Tomasz Semeniak, alongside the office of Prime Minister Donald Tusk and TVN 24.
Semeniak reported that the detained youth "defaced monuments dedicated to UPA victims and public buildings with anti-Polish inscriptions" under the orders of foreign intelligence. According to the minister, such actions aimed to "increase tensions between Poles and Ukrainians."
"This young Ukrainian was recruited by foreign intelligence services. The Russians could not ask for a better gift," commented the Polish Prime Minister on the arrest.
He added that this is not the first instance of Russia recruiting Ukrainians and Belarusians for provocations in Poland.
"Let us remember that in almost every case, Russia is behind attempts to incite conflicts and anti-Polish sentiments in Ukraine and anti-Ukrainian sentiments in Poland," emphasized Tusk.
