In Ukraine, new repatriation efforts have concluded, resulting in the return of the remains of 1000 fallen individuals.
This was reported by the Coordination Headquarters for the treatment of prisoners of war via Telegram.
Today, repatriation activities were carried out as part of prior agreements. A total of 1000 bodies were returned to Ukraine, which, according to Russian claims, belong to Ukrainian soldiers. Unfortunately, among the repatriated are 5 bodies of Ukrainian servicemen who died in captivity. They were included in the lists of "seriously wounded and ill" prisoners for exchange, as per agreements reached in Istanbul during the second round of negotiations. The Russian side continues to delay and does not fulfill its obligations. Ukraine insists on the immediate release of all critically ill and severely wounded detainees and continues to fight for the return of all Ukrainian citizens. Among those returned today are also defenders from Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, Luhansk, and Kursk directions. In the near future, law enforcement investigators, together with experts from the Ministry of Internal Affairs, will conduct all necessary tests and identify the repatriated bodies.
The successful repatriation was made possible through the collaborative efforts of the Coordination Headquarters for the treatment of prisoners of war, the Joint Center under the Security Service of Ukraine, the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Office of the Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights, the Secretariat of the Commissioner for Missing Persons under Special Circumstances, the State Emergency Service of Ukraine, and other security and defense sector bodies. We express our gratitude to the International Committee of the Red Cross for their assistance. Special thanks go to the personnel of the Central Administration of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the Joint Center for Support, which handle the transportation of the repatriated to designated state specialized institutions and organize the transfer of the deceased to law enforcement representatives for forensic examination.
