Environmental Impact of Drone Strikes: Over 1900 Tons of Pollutants in Kyiv

In just two days of drone strikes on Kyiv and its region, over 1900 tons of harmful emissions entered the atmosphere.

This was reported by the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources.

In June, Kyiv became the epicenter of one of the most devastating drone attacks by Russia.

On June 6 and 10, 1902 tons of harmful substances were released into the air.

Preliminary estimates indicate that the environmental damage exceeded 5.7 million hryvnias.

“All these incidents were accompanied by unregulated emissions of pollutants into the atmosphere – without filtration, in the context of combat operations. There was a mass burning of fuel, construction materials, plastics, and equipment.

This is not just the destruction of infrastructure; it is a systematic destruction of the environment, air pollution, and the creation of long-term health risks for the residents of the capital,” noted the Ministry of Environment.

It is worth mentioning that since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the amount of greenhouse gas emissions has significantly increased. In 2024, this figure nearly doubled compared to previous years.
