Fraudsters are widely disseminating fake emails allegedly sent by the State Tax Service of Ukraine. This has been reported by the acting head of the STS, Lesya Karnauh, on the official website.
“The subject of the email is a notification regarding a “financial audit” concerning a specific organization. I want to emphasize that the STS has no relation to this distribution, so we urge everyone to be cautious”, she stated.
These emails may contain harmful software. Opening the attached file can trigger a malicious program that allows unauthorized access to the user's computer. There is a real risk of virus infection.
Additionally, messages are sent from email addresses that are not associated with the STS.
The agency advises: do not open attachments in suspicious emails and follow basic internet safety rules.
On May 28, 2025, the State Tax Service of Ukraine reported on the widespread distribution of fake emails purportedly sent in its name. Attachments in the emails contained harmful software that activates upon opening PDF files. After that, attackers gain remote access to the computer.
