Winter Challenges: Russian Media Campaigns

image

In late October, we may witness an escalation of Russian media campaigns focusing on Ukraine's alleged «unpreparedness for winter» and attempts to undermine European Union sanctions. This warning comes from analysts at the Center for Countering Disinformation.
Amidst attacks on energy infrastructure, Russia is likely to spread panic messages about a supposed critical situation concerning energy supply and heating in Ukraine.
Additionally, an increase in disinformation regarding the 20th EU sanctions package is anticipated. Kremlin media will traditionally attempt to discredit both the sanctions themselves and the mechanisms of transatlantic cooperation, promoting the narrative of «sanction ineffectiveness» and trying to sow discord within the European Union.
Moreover, the Center predicts a wave of manipulations and fakes surrounding the situation at the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant, speculations about «militarization of Europe», attempts to undermine EU decisions regarding the downing of Russian planes and drones, as well as influence on the elections in the Netherlands.
Experts urge users to carefully check information sources and refrain from spreading unverified messages.
