Princess Anne, sister of King Charles III of the United Kingdom, made an unannounced visit to Ukraine, where she met with President Volodymyr Zelensky and First Lady Olena Zelenska. According to Sky News referencing Buckingham Palace,
the purpose of the princess's visit was to «express solidarity with children and families facing the horrors of the Russian invasion». She aimed to highlight the «traumatic experiences of children living on the front lines».
During her meeting with the President, the sister of King Charles III discussed Britain’s support for Ukraine.
In Kyiv, the royal family member met with female police officers and military personnel, and also visited a child protection center where children were able to reunite with their families. Over 19,500 Ukrainian children have been forcibly relocated or deported by Russian authorities to Russia and from temporarily occupied territories.
Additionally, Princess Anne visited a rehabilitation center where she met with Ukrainian veterans returning from the front lines.
She became the third royal family member to visit Ukraine. Last April, the Duchess of Edinburgh, Sophie, traveled to Kyiv, and last month, Prince Harry visited Kyiv at the invitation of the Ukrainian government, where he toured the National Museum of the History of Ukraine in World War II and met with Ukrainian veterans.
