The Ministry of Health of Ukraine has announced an updated list of medicines and medical products that are subject to reimbursement. This means patients will be able to access them at pharmacies free of charge or with a partial co-payment through electronic prescriptions under the Medical Guarantees Program. This update is part of the Government's actions to enhance the accessibility of medical services.
The order titled «Approval of the New Lists of Medicines and Medical Products Subject to Reimbursement as of August 28, 2025» will come into effect on September 30.
85 new medications have been added to the «Affordable Medicines» program, including:
- 3 medications for pregnant women and new mothers;
- 6 medications for thyroid diseases;
- 8 medications for glaucoma;
- 5 medications for childhood diseases;
- 61 medications for various chronic conditions, including cardiovascular, respiratory, metabolic, and neurological disorders.
Among the new drugs in the list are: indapamide, latanoprost, levothyroxine, methyldopa, timolol, torasemide, folic acid.
Thus, the reimbursement program now includes 705 items, specifically:
- 595 medicinal products;
- 38 insulin products;
- 30 combined medicinal products;
- 42 test strips for measuring glucose levels.
The program covers treatments for cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, chronic respiratory diseases, mental disorders, and much more.
To use the reimbursement program, you need to:
- Obtain an electronic prescription from your doctor.
- Visit a pharmacy marked «Affordable Medicines Available Here».
- Receive medications free of charge or with a partial co-payment.
Note that from July 1, 2025, the «Affordable Medicines» program is expected to be available in all pharmacies across Ukraine.
What to do if you are refused at the pharmacy?
If the pharmacy does not have a contract with the NHIF, report it to the Ministry of Health hotline at 0800 505 201. If the pharmacy has a contract but refuses to provide the medications, inform the NHIF (contact center: 16-77). According to the Reimbursement Procedure, the sale of medicines included in the program is allowed at previous prices for 30 days from the date of the new lists coming into effect.
