Arrest of Russian Agents in Kyiv Region

The counterintelligence unit of the SBU has apprehended two agents operating for Russian intelligence in the Kyiv region. They were illegally supplying Ukrainian SIM cards used to control drones that posed a threat to our nation.
These microchips enhanced communication and navigation for enemy drones.
The investigation revealed that the perpetrators were two residents of the Kyiv area, one of whom was a former law enforcement officer.
After receiving instructions from Russian special services, they initially purchased Ukrainian SIM cards and then sent them to their accomplices in Europe to conceal the shipment routes.
From there, the cards were sent to Russia, specifically to Naberezhnye Chelny and Yelabuga in Tatarstan, where factories for producing combat UAVs are located.
Another task for the agents was to recruit employees from Ukrainian telecommunications companies to gather intelligence from within.
The SBU uncovered this hostile activity, documented the agents, and arrested them.
During searches, smartphones containing evidence of contacts with FSB curators and foreign collaborators were seized. Prepared SIM cards for trafficking to Russia were also found.
SBU investigators informed the detainees of the suspicion under Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (treason committed under martial law).
The offenders are currently in custody, facing life imprisonment with asset confiscation.
Investigative actions are ongoing to hold other members of the Russian agency accountable in Europe.
The operation was conducted by SBU personnel in Kyiv and the surrounding area, with support from the Department of Internal Security of the National Police and the Kyiv City Prosecutor's Office.
