More than 35,000 Hasidic Jews have arrived in Uman to celebrate the Jewish New Year.

This was reported by Andriy Demchenko, spokesperson for the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine.

«We have been observing the flow of Hasidic pilgrims for several weeks. Initially, small groups arrived, but later their numbers grew to several thousand. The majority of the arrivals occurred in the last five days. On certain days, the number crossing the border from the EU and Moldova fluctuated between 4,000 and 11,000. According to our estimates, over 35,000 Hasidic pilgrims have entered Ukraine in recent weeks, mostly traveling in organized groups,» Demchenko stated.

He also mentioned that some Hasidim were denied entry into Ukraine due to document issues or previous violations of Ukrainian law.

«There were refusals related to passport documents or entry bans issued by state authorities prior to this. This means that these foreigners might have violated Ukrainian legislation, leading to the entry ban,» explained Demchenko.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine reminded Hasidic visitors planning to come to Uman about the state of war in Ukraine and the inability to guarantee the safety of foreign citizens within the country.
