Another Russian agent has been apprehended in the Kharkiv region by the counterintelligence of the Security Service of Ukraine. The individual is a 48-year-old engineer from the local branch of Ukrzaliznytsia who was spying on the Defense Forces' convoys under orders from the FSB.
According to the case materials, the suspect collected intelligence while repairing railways in the eastern border area. During restoration work, the railway worker covertly tracked the movement of Ukrainian military equipment.
The enemy was particularly interested in the quantity, routes, and types of weapons heading towards the front lines.
Additionally, during work trips, the agent marked the locations of defensive lines and other positions of Ukrainian troops on Google Maps.
The gathered information was transmitted via messenger to a handler, whose identity has already been established by the Security Service.
Reports indicate that the occupiers intended to use the intelligence for planning new bombing and drone strikes on the Kharkiv border.
SBU officers documented the crimes of the suspect and arrested him at the initial stage of his espionage activities.
Investigations revealed that the railway worker came under the radar of the Russian intelligence service after posting anti-Ukrainian comments in Telegram channels.
During searches at the suspect's residence, a smartphone was seized, which contained an anonymous chat used for communication with the FSB.
Investigators from the Security Service have informed the agent of suspicion under part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (state treason committed under martial law).
The suspect is currently in custody without the right to bail. He faces life imprisonment with asset confiscation.
Comprehensive measures were conducted by SBU officers in the Kharkiv region under the procedural guidance of the regional prosecutor's office.
