The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine successfully organized the return of 65 Ukrainian citizens stranded in the buffer zone at the border with Russia and Georgia.
This was announced by Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiga.
Among those returned were 10 women, including eight with serious illnesses. The ministry emphasized that all of them were at the Georgian checkpoint "Dariali" under conditions of a humanitarian crisis created by Russia's actions.
"Our diplomats and consular officials made every effort to bring back our citizens and improve their living conditions at the border, involving international organizations in the process," he noted.
Additionally, the Ukrainian diplomat reported that on August 21-22, thanks to joint efforts, a large group of Ukrainians was successfully returned from Georgia through Moldova.
Sybiga reminded that in previous months, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs had already organized the return of a total of 44 citizens, bringing the overall number of Ukrainians returned from the "Dariali" checkpoint to 109.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in collaboration with the embassies of Ukraine in Georgia and Moldova and relevant Ukrainian agencies, continues to work on returning the remaining citizens who wish to be repatriated to Ukraine.
Since mid-June, Russia has significantly intensified the deportation of Ukrainian citizens across the border with Georgia, leading to a humanitarian crisis in the buffer zone of the "Dariali" checkpoint, where some Ukrainians have declared a hunger strike.
The issue of Ukrainians stranded at the border is periodically reported by human rights initiatives and the media.
In early August, the Ukrainian embassy in Georgia stated that measures had been taken to provide essential supplies to Ukrainian citizens stranded in the buffer zone at the Georgian border.
