As the end of support for Windows 10 approaches, Microsoft is actively seeking ways to cater to users who are reluctant to upgrade. Recently, the company announced the option to obtain security updates known as Extended Security Updates (ESU) for 1000 Microsoft Rewards points.
The official support for Windows 10 will end on October 14, 2025, but according to StatCounter, this version of the operating system remains the most popular among all Microsoft products, holding a 53.19% market share. Meanwhile, Windows 11 has only 43.22% of users. This means that more than half of users can take advantage of this offer for free.
By earning 1000 Microsoft Rewards points, users can continue to receive security updates and critical vulnerability patches for another year until October 13, 2026.
If you don’t have 1000 points, it’s fairly easy to earn them. You can use Bing for searches, particularly through the Microsoft Edge browser, make purchases in the Microsoft Store, play games via the Xbox app, and actively engage with the company’s services.
Additionally, users can purchase a year of ESU updates for $30. After the support of Windows 10 ends, users will be given the option to select one of the available plans, after which their PC will be automatically registered for ESU.
Organizations can also obtain ESU for $61 per device to receive critical and important updates for one year. This subscription can be renewed annually for up to three years, although the cost will gradually increase.
