The program for the 2028 Summer Olympics, set to take place in Los Angeles, California, has been officially approved.

This information comes from the press service of the International Olympic Committee.

The press release emphasizes that gender equality has played a crucial role in the development of the 2028 Olympic program.

Although there will be more men’s medals awarded (165) compared to women’s (161), for the first time in history, the number of female participants will exceed that of male participants: 5333 to 5167.

This milestone has been achieved primarily through the expansion of women’s team sports, where female athletes will have equal representation with males.

For instance, the number of teams in the men’s football tournament has been reduced from 16 to 12, while the women’s tournament has increased from 12 to 16. In six sports, including table tennis and athletics, new mixed tournaments for men and women will be introduced. Overall, there will be 22 more medal events in 2028 than at the previous Olympics in Paris.
