New sports routes will be developed across all districts of Kyiv. This was announced by Olena Hovorova, Deputy Head of the Kyiv City Administration, during a meeting of the City Accessibility Committee.
«Physical activity for Ukrainians is not just about health; it's also about recovery through sports. We have studied the experiences of other cities and are working on creating sports routes in Kyiv. These routes will be designed to cover all areas of the capital, making them convenient for residents and visitors alike. We have planned and discussed 16 routes with the running community. Each route will feature an information board detailing the route (length, difficulty level, estimated time, etc.) and necessary signposts. Additionally, the routes will be equipped with audio guides in Ukrainian and English so people can learn interesting facts about the places they pass. To listen to the audio guide, one simply needs to scan the QR code on the information board at the start of the route», – stated Olena Hovorova.
She added that fitness stations are also planned along the routes so that people can engage in sports during their walks or runs.
The navigation along the routes will be funded by partners. Meanwhile, the Kyiv Sports Complex will ensure that all signage meets accessibility standards.
Lesya Petrivska, head of the City Accessibility Committee for people with disabilities, emphasized the need for barrier-free principles in the creation of these sports routes.
«I thank the city for its active position that considers the interests of all residents, including those with disabilities. The mnemonic schemes planned at the start of the routes will assist visually impaired individuals. For the convenience of those with hearing impairments, it is necessary to translate audio guides into sign language», – highlighted Lesya Petrivska.
In 2024, three routes are planned to be launched in the Holosiivskyi and Podilskyi districts.
Information about the sports routes will be made available at the Tourist and Cultural Hub.
