The Mayor of Kyiv, Vitali Klitschko, met with Kyiv athletes who medaled at the XXXIII Olympic Games and the Paralympics in Paris at the city hall. The capital traditionally recognized their achievements and those of their coaches with monetary awards.

This year, the city increased the financial rewards. Athletes received nearly 2.5 million UAH for gold, over 1.2 million UAH for bronze, and 186,000 UAH for fifth and sixth places. Coaches were also awarded.

«From July 26 to August 11 this year, Kyiv athletes participated in the Olympic and Paralympic Games in Paris as part of the Ukrainian national team. Sports organizations, coaches, and specialists in physical education made significant efforts for the preparation of our Olympians. The athletes showed high sporting skill and determination to win – the Ukrainian flag was raised twice in their honor. At this Olympics, 140 athletes competed in 26 sports, among them 42 Kyiv athletes earned medals in 15 sports», – stated the mayor.

Among the 12 medals won by the Ukrainian team at the last Olympics, 1 gold medal was won by Kyiv fencers Olha Kharlan and Yulia Bakastova in the team event. 2 bronze medals were earned by Olha Kharlan in individual fencing and Iryna Herashchenko in high jump. Additionally, our athletes placed 5th and 6th.
