The European Chess Championship held in Batumi, Georgia, has concluded, marking a significant achievement for Ukraine. The men's team claimed the championship title, while the women's team secured a commendable second place. According to the Ukrainian Chess Federation, the Ukrainian players also received several individual awards.
Anna Ushenina was recognized as the best on the second board among women.
In the men's category, gold was won by Igor Kovalenko on the fourth board and Igor Samunenkov on the fifth board.
Second places on those boards were taken by Ukrainian female chess players Natalia Zhukova and Bozhena Piddubna, both only 16 years old.

This achievement allowed Ukraine to match its best results in European championship history. In 1992, the women became champions while the men took silver. The men's team first won the championship in 2021. Previously, they had secured third place in 2009 and 2017. The women's team has been champions twice, in 1992 and 2013, and earned silver in 2015. In both 2009 and 2017, the girls also won bronze medals.
