A significant milestone has been achieved in Ukrainian sports: Maria Vynnyk has claimed a silver medal at the World Wrestling Championship taking place in Zagreb, Croatia!
This 23-year-old athlete began her medal journey with a remarkable victory over Hungary's Erika Bognar, a European vice-champion. She then defeated world and European championship medalist, Norway's Otilie Hoye, allowing her to advance to the semifinals. In the semifinals, Maria triumphed over three-time Pan American champion, Canada’s Lawrence Boregard. However, in the gold medal match, the Ukrainian wrestler unfortunately lost to Asia's champion and U20 World Champion, Japan's Sakura Onishi, with a score of 8:17.
Congratulations to our silver medalist and her entire coaching team! Let's continue to cheer for our Ukrainian wrestlers in Zagreb. The world championship will last until September 21.
