Using only the strength of his arms, he managed to cover 62 kilometers, nearly double the straight-line distance.
Oleg Ivanenko, a resident of Brovary who navigates in a wheelchair, accomplished an incredible feat — he swam across the English Channel on his back, establishing a new world record.
This was reported by the group «Ukrainian Sport TV».
The swim lasted 18 hours. Due to strong currents and winds, Oleg had to swim not in a straight line but at angles, which significantly increased the distance of the route. Closer to night, the air temperature dropped to +12°C, and strong winds and waves rose, but this did not deter the courageous Ukrainian.
«Friends! Congratulations on our shared victory! We have a World Record! The Channel has been conquered! And one might say, even twice», — wrote Oleg Ivanenko, addressing his supporters.
He thanked everyone for their support, which empowered him, and emphasized that this victory was achieved together. Additionally, throughout the swim, Oleg was inspired by the Ukrainian flag. This feat serves as another testament to the unbreakable spirit of Ukrainians.
