Usyk Deserves a Break

Serhiy Lapin, the director of the absolute heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk's team, stated that the Ukrainian deserves a break and has the right to choose whether to fight Joseph Parker.

Lapin emphasized that throughout Usyk's professional career, both he and the team have shown respect for all potential opponents and the rules governing professional boxing. Over the past year and a half, Usyk has achieved historic milestones by becoming the absolute heavyweight champion twice, which required immense physical and mental effort. He has earned the chance to give his body a break from the exhausting training and injuries that often go unnoticed. Most importantly, he deserves the right to choose his future and take the necessary time to make that decision. "So, guys, don't rush him," Lapin remarked.

Earlier, the World Boxing Organization (WBO) mandated Usyk to face the New Zealander. Usyk has already requested the WBO to postpone his title defense due to injuries and fatigue. Reports indicate that the Ukrainian has been dealing with a chronic back injury for several years. Additionally, the boxer requested more time to rest due to his age, noting that he has fought at the highest level in recent years.

Recently, Usyk knocked out British fighter Daniel Dubois, becoming the absolute world champion in the heavyweight division (over 90.72 kg) for the second time. He is the first since Muhammad Ali to achieve this.
