Dmytro Nikitin, a Ukrainian high jumper, claimed victory at the Golden Spike international tournament held in Ostrava, Czech Republic.
Today, June 24, the 25-year-old athlete represented Ukraine in a competition that is part of the World Athletics Continental Tour.
He was the sole Ukrainian competitor in the men’s high jump. His main rival was Czech athlete Jan Štefela, a silver medalist at the European Indoor Championships. The two athletes vied for the gold medal.
Fortunately, Dmytro emerged victorious in this contest. Both athletes achieved the best result of the tournament, clearing a height of 2.24 meters, but Nikitin succeeded on his first attempt, while Štefela did it on his third try.
Both athletes attempted to jump over 2.28 meters but failed. As a result, Dmytro Nikitin was crowned the champion of the Continental Tour in Ostrava, with Štefela taking silver. The bronze medal went to Italian Marco Fassino, who cleared 2.20 meters.
