A court in Kyiv has ruled on the case of a driver who, while intoxicated, hit a 14-year-old girl at a pedestrian crossing and left her without help.

The 33-year-old man was sentenced to 4 years in prison and banned from driving for 5 years.

This was reported by the Kyiv City Prosecutor's Office.

The incident occurred on November 18, 2024, on Dashkevicha Street when the driver of a Seat Toledo struck the girl, who was crossing the street on a green traffic light.

After the incident, the man fled the scene, leaving the injured child without assistance. Witnesses called the police and an ambulance.

As a result of the accident, the girl sustained moderate injuries and was hospitalized at the "Okhmatdyt" hospital.

According to Irina Vinokurova, spokesperson for the Kyiv City Prosecutor's Office, law enforcement quickly located and apprehended the driver. It turned out he lived nearby. A breathalyzer test showed 2.3 promille of alcohol in his system.

"Since the suspect had a criminal record for causing bodily harm, prosecutors requested his detention," she noted.

In court, the man admitted his guilt but did not compensate the injured child.

The driver was found guilty on multiple charges and sentenced to 4 years of incarceration, along with a 5-year driving ban. This is the strictest penalty provided under the articles he was charged with.

Earlier, it was reported that a car had hit four people in a pedestrian zone in Kyiv, among whom there were also casualties.
