The power supply situation in Ukraine may worsen despite the warming weather.
This was stated by Yuriy Boyko, a member of the supervisory board of NEC "Ukrenergo," in an interview with Business Capital.
Currently, residential consumers are not facing outages, whereas the restrictions mainly affect businesses and industries.
"The situation may change in March and April. Planned repairs will begin at our nuclear power plants after winter. Taking a 1000 MW block offline is significant for our energy system in its current condition. I'm not sure we can easily replace the absence of such a power unit, especially several of them. The hydropower resources this year are considerably lower — a result of the mild and snowless winter," Boyko stated.
Boyko believes that strict energy conservation will be necessary to avoid outages.
Additionally, he emphasized the need to increase electricity imports.
Reminder:
NEC "Ukrenergo" encourages businesses to connect their backup generating units, installed for their own needs, to the overall energy system.
