The National Bank of Ukraine has decided to reduce the number of coins in cash circulation. However, the 10 kopeck coins will continue to be accepted for payments. This information was released by representatives of the NBU.
Retail chains, service sector enterprises, and banks in Ukraine will still accept 10 kopeck coins for transactions. Citizens do not need to return or exchange them.
Starting from October 1, the NBU will stop minting new 10 kopeck coins and will cease their distribution to banks. Coins that enter banks will be withdrawn and sent to the NBU for disposal.
“Considering the significant volume of 10 kopeck coins in circulation and the declining demand for them, we hope to reduce costs associated with their production and processing,” NBU officials stated.
Recall that on October 1, 2019, coins of 1, 2, and 5 kopecks were withdrawn from circulation, and 25 kopecks were removed on October 1, 2020. After the withdrawal of 10 kopeck coins, the smallest remaining coin in Ukraine will be 50 kopecks.
