In the past day, Lithuanian border guards have intercepted 55 attempts of illegal crossings from Belarus.
This was reported by Delfi.
According to the border agency, this marks the highest number of intercepts in a single day this year.
Gedrius Mishutis, a representative of the border service, shared that four groups of migrants attempted to enter Lithuania.
Specifically, on Wednesday evening, 38 illegal migrants were prevented from entering the country in the Varena and Lazdijai districts.
"Another group was detained in the Ignalina district. The migrants were recorded, apprehended, individual checks were carried out, and then they were returned to Belarus," said Mishutis.
Recently, Poland warned that the migration pressure on the border with Belarus is increasing again.
It was reported that a Polish soldier was injured during an incident involving illegal migrants at the Belarus border.
