On Monday, a large anti-government protest took place in Serbia's capital, Belgrade, with thousands of participants demanding early parliamentary elections to remove the ruling party of President Aleksandar Vucic from power.
According to Reuters, tens of thousands of protesters marched through the streets of Belgrade on September 1, commemorating the 16 victims of a roof collapse at the train station in Novi Sad in November 2024. Participants gathered around 7 PM in front of the old train station in Belgrade. Additionally, 16 high school students walked through Sava Square holding white roses while reading the names of those lost in the incident. Similar protests occurred in several other cities, including Novi Sad, Kragujevac, and Aleksinac. Since then, anti-government demonstrations led by students have persisted in Serbia. Protesters blame corruption for the disaster and demand the government's resignation. These rallies have shaken the popularity of populist President Vucic and his SPS party.
