The event featured Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko, Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada Ruslan Stefanchuk, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrskyi, Deputy Prime Minister for Reconstruction Oleksii Kuleba, Defense Minister Denys Shmyhal, Minister for Veterans Affairs Natalia Kalmykova, and Deputy Head of the President's Office Pavlo Palisa.
The President listened to the report by the spokesperson of the Ministry of Veterans Affairs Hennadiy Popenko. The new cemetery has been equipped with sections for honorary burials, two columbaria have been built, and engineering networks and access roads have been established. A parking area and a regular shuttle service have been arranged for visitors, which the President used to arrive today.
A special area has been designated for the burial of soldiers whose names are not yet known. An Avenue of Limes is also being created here – a symbolic road of memory.
The uniqueness of the memorial lies in standardized burials. Initially, a temporary cross based on Cossack monuments of the 15th-16th centuries will be installed, and after a year, a permanent gravestone in the form of a cross or plaque will be set up. The final version will be chosen by the relatives of the deceased.
Today, five defenders were buried, whose names are currently unknown. The cemetery will continue to accommodate unknown heroes.
The memory of the fallen soldiers was honored with a moment of silence.
