Summer Demand for Train Travel Exceeds Supply

This summer, there is a significant increase in demand for passenger train travel that exceeds the capabilities of the state company.

In August, the railway operates during the peak season for passenger transport. For each seat on the trains, there are 4-5 requests.

This was reported by Ukrainian Railways.

The company acknowledges that many passengers are disappointed when they cannot purchase tickets even immediately after sales open. The simple reason is that a large number of people are searching for tickets simultaneously.

Additionally, Ukrainian Railways noted that the fleet of cars is decreasing faster than new ones can be purchased or modernized. Some cars have been taken out of service due to age or damage: last year, three cars were lost due to Russian shelling, six were decommissioned due to wear, and 95 require expensive repairs.

Ukrainian Railways assures that despite all the difficulties, the company manages to transport more passengers year after year. As of August 3, there are 1488 cars operating on long-distance trains.

The main task for the near future is to increase the number of seats. For this, UZ needs sufficient funding to regularly purchase new cars and Intercity trains, as well as to modernize those approaching the end of their service life.
