A man was arrested in Cherkasy after threatening to detonate a grenade. Law enforcement received a report about an attempted hostage situation involving military personnel of the TCC. The suspect was armed with a pistol and three grenades.
According to reports, during a routine check on Khimikiv Avenue, the man pulled out a grenade, removed the pin, and started making threats. A special police operation was initiated in the city.
Investigation teams, special forces, and bomb disposal experts quickly arrived at the scene. Police engaged in negotiations with the suspect, and eventually, he was detained without any casualties.
The professional actions of the police and SBU prevented a possible explosion, and the man was arrested under Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine.
Three grenades and a pistol were confiscated from the suspect. The dangerous items have been sent for examination.
Investigators are considering charges against the detained individual under several articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, which could lead to a prison sentence of up to eight years.
