On July 29, President Volodymyr Zelensky signed a law that enables citizens aged 60 and above to serve in the military under a contract.
The document states that during martial law, with the written consent of the military unit commander, citizens over 60 who are deemed fit by the military medical commission can be accepted for contract service. These servicemen will hold non-combat positions: either among privates, sergeants, or warrant officers, as well as junior or senior officers. Contracts for individuals aged 60+ are established for one year with the possibility of extension. For officers of this age, approval from the General Staff of the Armed Forces is mandatory. Contract personnel in this category will undergo a two-month probation period, and if they do not meet the required standards, the contract will be terminated.
Should martial law be lifted, all such contracts automatically become void.
