Railway Safety Training for Children

Ukrzaliznytsia, in collaboration with the State Emergency Service and other organizations, has organized safety training for children to raise awareness about railway safety rules.

According to Ukrzaliznytsia, 18 children have tragically lost their lives this year due to safety violations on the railway.

«This alarming statistic begins with innocent play but ends in tragedy. Train surfing is a dangerous „hobby“ that can have fatal consequences», — railway officials stated.

This risky activity endangers the lives of not only the teenagers involved but also passengers and railway workers. To prevent such incidents, it is crucial to educate children on safe behavior around trains. This is why Ukrzaliznytsia, together with the State Emergency Service and Red Cross, conducted rescue training for children.

During the training, over 100 railway workers collaborated with rescuers to practice all essential steps for responding to emergency situations, including fires caused by train surfing:

  • de-energizing the overhead line;
  • evacuating passengers;
  • assisting the injured;
  • coordinating rescue operations.

More than 60 children aged 5 to 16 observed the process. Following the simulation, they participated in a safety lesson about railway transport, learning how to identify mine or fire hazards. Throughout the year, all railway workers undergo mandatory safety and first aid training. We will continue to organize such training sessions for children to foster a conscious attitude towards railway safety and prevent tragic incidents.
