President Volodymyr Zelensky has enacted a law concerning the recognition of Ukrainians deported from Poland between 1944 and 1951.

This legislation officially acknowledges the status of Ukrainians who were forcibly relocated to the USSR as part of the population exchange between the Ukrainian SSR and the Polish People's Republic. The document establishes the status of deported individuals and their descendants while guaranteeing state support, including social benefits, medical care, and the preservation of historical memory, as well as the state's obligation to commemorate these deportations.

Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha remarked that the Ukrainian state will continue to systematically address the proper recognition of crimes committed by the totalitarian Soviet regime.

“This is primarily about people. Unfortunately, many witnesses of those tragic events have already passed away. However, in order to protect the rights of those still living and their descendants, our state guarantees the provision of the assistance stipulated by law,” emphasized the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.
