Ukraine is set to become the first European nation to offer Starlink mobile services. Messaging capabilities are expected to launch by year-end, with satellite broadband access anticipated by mid-2026.
This information was reported by Reuters, citing the CEO of "Kyivstar", Oleksandr Komarov.
Field tests have already commenced under an agreement established with Space at the end of 2024. This will enable Elon Musk's company to provide mobile phone connectivity services in Ukraine.
Communication will be facilitated via satellites equipped with modems, acting as mobile cell towers transmitting phone signals directly from space to smartphones.
"The first phase involves messaging through OTT technologies (over-the-top messaging) like WhatsApp, Signal, and other systems," said Komarov to Reuters in Rome.
According to him, this is expected to be implemented by the end of this year.
"And likely, at the beginning of 2026, let's be cautious, in the second quarter of 2026, we will offer mobile satellite broadband data and voice services," added the "Kyivstar" director.
