On July 14, Trafalgar Square in London will host the unveiling of the mosaic "Boroviter," dedicated to the distinguished Ukrainian artist Alla Horska. This event marks the beginning of an international route aimed at promoting Ukrainian monumental art.
It is worth noting that the original panel depicting a falcon in flight, a symbol of creative freedom, was created in Mariupol in 1967. Three years after its creation, Alla Horska was murdered by Soviet special services, and in 2022, the mosaic was damaged during the full-scale invasion of Russia.
The reproduction project was initiated by ROZETKA, the Oleksandr Usyk Foundation, UKRAINE WOW, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine. Fifteen artists and researchers worked on the mosaic, overseen by the artist's granddaughter, Olena Zaretska, and cultural manager Anastasia Ishchenko. To ensure the most accurate reproduction, over 700 kg of materials from various countries were collected.
"Boroviter" is not just a mosaic but a voice of a culture that is being attempted to be erased. Its appearance in London symbolizes an act of remembrance, resistance, and faith in restoration,” the organizers emphasize.
As part of the initiative, a second copy of the mosaic was also created, divided into 1250 fragments. All pieces were sold out within a day, and the collected funds exceeding 4 million UAH will be directed towards the restoration of the Kyiv mosaic.
