Pope Leo XIV Meets with the President of Ukraine

On Wednesday, July 9th, Pope Leo XIV held an audience with the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, at his residence in Castel Gandolfo.

This was reported by Vatican News, citing the press office of the Holy See.

During the meeting, both parties discussed the ongoing war and the urgent need to find lasting and just pathways to peace.

«In a heartfelt conversation, the importance of dialogue as the best means to cease hostilities was reaffirmed. The Holy Father expressed sorrow over the casualties and renewed his prayers and closeness to the Ukrainian people, supporting all efforts aimed at freeing captives and seeking common solutions», the communiqué stated following the meeting.

Moreover, the Holy Father reiterated his readiness to welcome representatives from Russia and Ukraine in the Vatican for negotiations.
