The new experimental train car, which can be reserved in advance, aims to enhance accessibility for passengers in wheelchairs.

The first upgraded car is fully adapted and ready to transport passengers with special needs.

This compartment car features 6 sleeping places in each compartment, allowing comfortable accommodation for two wheelchair users and two companions. If there is no demand for special seating, it can accommodate up to 6 passengers.

Key features of the car include:

  • Electric lift with a capacity of 300 kg;
  • Wider doors and corridors for easy movement;
  • Navigation in Braille and contrasting signage;
  • Spacious restroom with shower and SOS button;
  • Restroom occupancy indicator;
  • Individual USB and Type-C sockets;
  • Adjustable seat backs;
  • Separate lighting control;
  • Video surveillance systems.

The car was manufactured in Bakhmach over a period of three months using the latest technologies.

Prior to modernization, the team conducted consultations with organizations that assist people with disabilities to address their needs.

This car is part of Ukrzaliznytsia's strategy to implement a barrier-free environment in railway transport. The company is actively working on ensuring accessibility for both rolling stock and station infrastructure for persons with limited mobility.

Ukrzaliznytsia emphasizes that this is just the first step toward creating a barrier-free environment, and it plans to expand this initiative to ensure comfortable travel for all categories of passengers.
