The simplified conditions for exporting Ukrainian goods to European Union countries will end on June 5. After this date, the trade rules that were in place before the full-scale invasion by Russia will be restored.
This was stated by Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk, according to the Polish publication RMF24.
End of the "Trade Visa-Free" with the EU: What is known
Tusk noted that the Polish government aims to assist Ukraine in its war against Russia, but this should not come at the expense of Polish producers, primarily farmers.
"We have achieved this - from June 5, this mechanism will no longer exist. We are returning to the situation that existed before the war in terms of border rules," said the Polish politician.
According to him, his government will prioritize Polish economic interests, even if they conflict with Ukrainian interests.
The government wants to negotiate with the EU to extend the "Trade Visa-Free".
The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine hopes to reach an agreement with the European Commission to establish autonomous trade rules for Ukraine by June 5, 2025. This is the date until which the current trade liberalization regime with the EU is in effect.
The European Union is preparing to impose significantly higher tariffs on Ukrainian imports in the coming weeks, which could severely impact Kyiv's economy at a critical moment in its fight against Russian aggression.
Earlier, Ukraine and the EU agreed to extend the agreement on the liberalization of freight transport until the end of 2025.
Thanks to this agreement, Ukrainian exports by road to EU countries increased by 42%, while imports to Ukraine by the same transport method rose by 37%.
