The film “Mother of Apostles” has won 88 international awards, setting a new record for Ukrainian cinema. This was reported on the Facebook page “ShоTam?”
The film was produced by the “Golden Runo Studio” with the support of the Ministry of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine in 2020.
It has been presented at 62 international festivals in 28 countries, including the USA, Canada, Germany, France, Italy, China, the UK, Australia, Turkey, Israel, Spain, Poland, Romania, and others. In total, the film received 88 awards and recognitions from the global film community.
This achievement marks the best result in the history of Ukrainian cinema and has been included in the Ukrainian Book of Records.
Specifically, the film has received:
- the main award at the Asia Film Art International Film Festival (AFAIFF) in Hong Kong;
- the grand prix of the festival in the “Best Film” category, as well as an award from the Vatican's ecumenical jury and an award for best soundtrack from composers Roman Grygoriev and Ilya Razumeyko;
- two awards at the Calella Film Festival in Spain.
According to the website of the State Agency of Ukraine for Film, “Mother of Apostles” is dedicated to the mothers of soldiers who went to defend Ukraine in 2014. The film is based on the stories of women whose sons fought for Ukraine in 2014. In search of her son, a pilot whose plane was shot down over occupied territory, the mother enters a foreign and hostile world of hatred and suffering. In this hell, she seeks her son, and with great love in her heart, she changes everyone she meets along the way. Her despair and pain transform into the eternal motherly spirit of the land, bringing sons home, alive or dead.
The film is directed by Zaza Buadze, with screenwriters Ratha Makeyenko and Zaza Buadze, cinematographer Oleksandr Zemlyany, artist Inga Zhitnya, composers Roman Grygoriev and Ilya Razumeyko, and producer Dmytro Ovechkin. The cast includes Natalia Polovynka, Bohdan Benyuk, Oleksandr Pozharsky, Svitlana Osipenko, Serhiy Medin, Stanislav Shchokin, and others.
As reported by IMI, the documentary film “Callsign Batman: The Mystery of Vasylivskyi Checkpoint” won the “Best Investigation” award at the Prix CIRCOM 2025 festival.
