Starting from September 2026, schools in Vienna will introduce Ukrainian as a second foreign language. This information was shared by the Ukrainian Embassy in Austria on social media.
Initially, students from the 9th year of schooling, beginning in the 5th grade of high school (Oberstufe), will have the opportunity to learn Ukrainian.
Two schools in Vienna have been identified for this initiative: BORG 3 (Landstraße Hauptstraße 70) and GRG 15 (Diefenbachgasse 19).
“This is a significant step towards preserving the Ukrainian language and culture,” emphasized the diplomats.
The main condition for launching the courses is a sufficient number of applications from students. Diplomats urged the Ukrainian community in Vienna to actively participate in this initiative and submit applications for the upcoming academic year.
As a reminder, ten schools and educational centers from various cities in Denmark and Stockholm have joined the teacher mentorship program “Roots and Wings: A Story That Unites,” supported by the Pylyp Orlyk Foundation.
