Harvard Faces Cybersecurity Breach: New Security Challenges

image

Harvard University has reported unauthorized access to one of its databases, according to Bloomberg. The attacked database contains information on alumni, donors, and some students and faculty.

The incident occurred following a phone phishing attack, during which personal contact details, donation information, and other data related to alumni activities and fundraising were compromised.

According to the university's statement, access for the attackers was "immediately blocked and measures were taken to prevent further breaches." Harvard is also collaborating with cybersecurity experts and law enforcement agencies investigating the incident. Sources indicate that the perpetrators have yet to be identified.

Harvard University, the oldest and wealthiest institution of higher education in the U.S., is also known as a major fundraising center, attracting over $1 billion in donations annually.

This marks the second data breach incident at Harvard this year. In October, the university reported an investigation into a potential hack linked to a campaign against Oracle Corp clients.
