The German military has been deployed to Belgium at the request of the national authorities to help secure the airspace from unidentified drone activity. This was reported by the DPA news agency.
According to the German Ministry of Defense, the first units have arrived and are currently assessing the situation and coordinating with Belgian forces for the temporary use of drone detection and countermeasures.
The ministry added that the "main forces" are expected to arrive shortly.
On November 5, Prime Minister Bart De Wever convened an urgent meeting of the National Security Council following several incidents involving unknown drones, with Belgian intelligence services blaming Russia for the occurrences.
The meeting resolved to strengthen the National Air Security Center (NASC) and discuss additional measures to combat drone threats.

Unidentified Drones in Belgian Airspace

On the night of October 29, unidentified drones were spotted again over the military base at Marche-en-Famenne in southern Belgium, marking the second sighting in just a few days. They were first seen over the Elsenborn military base in eastern Belgium.
On November 2, two more sightings of unknown drones occurred near the Kleine-Brogel military airbase, where police attempted to intercept them but were unsuccessful.
On the evening of November 4, drones were observed over Brussels Airport, leading to temporary flight suspensions on two occasions. Similar incidents have also been reported over Liège Airport and near the Kleine-Brogel, Florennes, and Schaffen military airbases.
On the evening of November 6, Brussels Airport halted operations again due to another unidentified drone sighting.
Since September 10, 2025, Russia has been violating the airspace of NATO member countries, with Russian drones and aircraft, as well as unidentified UAVs, regularly detected over Poland, Romania, Estonia, Denmark, France, and Germany.
