In the French town of Neuville-sur-Son, a man digging a pool in his garden unearthed gold bars and coins valued at approximately 700,000 euros ($800,000). This was reported by Reuters, citing local authorities.
It is noted that the treasure was discovered earlier in May of this year on the man's property, and he promptly reported it to the Regional Authority for Cultural Affairs. The man's identity remains undisclosed.
Only recently did local officials decide that he could keep the found gold, as there were no signs indicating it was an archaeological artifact.
According to a local government representative, they could not determine how the valuables came to be on the property. It was also reported that the previous landowner had passed away.
Local media have reported that five gold bars and coins were hidden in plastic bags.
