Incidents Involving U.S. Military Aircraft in the South China Sea

On Sunday, two separate incidents involving U.S. military aircraft occurred over the South China Sea. According to CBS News, these involved an F/A-18 fighter jet and a Sea Hawk helicopter.
The MH-60R helicopter, part of the 73rd Helicopter Strike Squadron, crashed around 14:45 local time while conducting planned operations.
About 30 minutes later, an F/A-18F Super Hornet from the 22nd Strike Fighter Squadron also crashed during routine operations.
All five crew members from both aircraft were rescued by the fleet's search and rescue teams and are in stable condition. The causes of the crashes are under investigation.
