On the evening of October 9, Alexander Darakhvelidze, the Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of Georgia, announced the arrest of eight more participants from the protest held on the day of municipal elections. According to «Echo of the Caucasus», among those arrested were 71-year-old professor Georgy Chakhuashvili, Coalition for Change member Irakli Chkvirkvia, and designer Ia Darakhvelidze.
On the morning of October 10, news emerged of another demonstrator's arrest.
A total of 45 participants have been detained, with several others wanted. They all face lengthy prison sentences, and most have already been taken into custody by court order.
Among those previously detained are the organizers of the rally on October 4: Paata Burchuladze, Paata Mandjgaladze, Murtaz Zodelava, Irakli Nadiradze, and Lasha Beridze.
On October 6, 13 individuals were detained, on October 7 – four more, on October 8 – 12 demonstrators, and on October 9 – an additional eight.
It should be noted that on October 4, municipal elections were held in Georgia, and eight opposition parties announced in July their refusal to participate.
The protests due to disputed election results escalated into clashes with police, who used water cannons to disperse the crowds. Additionally, some anti-government protesters attempted to storm the presidential palace, with some breaching into the inner courtyard. Tear gas was deployed.
