In Belgium, an investigation is ongoing after 15 drones were spotted over the Elsenborn military base near the German border. This incident comes amidst a rising wave of drone-related disturbances across European airspace.
It is worth noting that in Germany, the Munich airport was shut down overnight due to unidentified drones, leading to the cancellation of 17 flights and significant travel disruptions for nearly 3,000 passengers.
Another 15 flights scheduled to arrive in Munich were redirected to airports in Stuttgart, Nuremberg, Vienna, and Frankfurt.
The German air traffic control agency (DFS) restricted flights at Munich airport from 10:18 PM local time on Thursday and later completely suspended them due to the presence of drones in the airport's airspace.
This event in Munich follows a series of airport closures in Denmark last week due to suspicious drone activity near several airports.
The Danish authorities have yet to release findings regarding the ownership of the intruding drones, but Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen suggested that Russia may be involved in the disruptions to Danish airports.
European Union leaders supported plans on Wednesday to bolster the bloc's defenses against Russian drones, despite Moscow's denials of involvement.
Ryanair CEO Michael O'Leary has suggested that if unknown drones are disrupting the airspace of EU countries and causing airport delays, they should be shot down.
